January 29, 2008 — Thanks to the many donations from concerned individuals, meetings and organizations, we have sent over $18,000 from the Kenya Relief Fund and are getting ready to send an additional $15,000 yet this week. Your donations are so encouraging and such a reassurance of the love and heartfelt concerns you have for those affected by this crisis and we are deeply grateful. Thank you.

We remain in daily contact with all of our staff in Kenya, and are confident that all are safe and taking care of themselves.

It is easy to sit here in the States and feel helpless and insignificant in offering assistance to those struggling, but we ask that you continue to hold our Kenyan brothers and sisters, John and Rose Muhanji and their family, Ben and Jody Richmond, Eden and James Grace and their boys, Isaiah and Jesse, and Judy Davis in the light as they struggle to remain safe and to encourage peace within their communities and among their neighbors. Your prayers are making a difference in their lives.

  • I am listing three of the many blogs that deal with information on the Kenyan conflict. Mary Kay Rehard is a former FUM field staff and has created a blog to begin accumulating information in one place. Carol Homes, an FUM board member, mentions in her blog ways to give financially to the humanitarian efforts in Kenya. The Quaker Service blog contains a running journal of the events from David Zarembka who is now living in Kenya with his wife Gladys Kamonya. While lengthy, David's letters are a worthy ready. Please note that while FUM does not sponsor or promote any of these blogs, these are references which we have found to be helpful. They do not in any way cover the entire subject or come close to being an inclusive list.

    • Mary Kay Rehard's blog for pooling together information
    • Carol Holmes' blog (FUM board member)
    • Contains the letters from David Zarembka
