Preparing for the Triennial
As I have prepared myself to begin ministry in Kenya I have just been
getting my shots. Here is the latest information regarding documents and
health preparations you will need to get ready to go to Kenya.
¥ PASSPORTEveryone must have a valid passport which lasts ten years.
You will need your birth certificate and passport photos. Get a number
of passport photos, since they will also be needed for a visa.
¥ VISASA tourist visa is usually needed to enter Kenya. This requires
a recent passport photo and recently the fee was $50. The regulations
keep changing and by next summer tourists only going for a couple weeks
might not need visas.
¥ IMMUNIZATIONSDue to the perfect climate in Kenya, it is attractive
to all life including many insects and parasites we don't like! Currently
immunizations against the following are required or strongly recommended:
yellow fever, malaria, and cholera. It is also recommended to update:
tetanus, measles, polio, typhoid, and hepatitis A. There are several types
of anti-malaria medicine available. One is taken weekly, and the other
every day, depending on your preference. Check with your local doctor
for full details and schedule.
See you in Kenya in July, 2002!
